Zenit St. Petersburg forward Andrey Zubkov suffered a thigh injury in his team's season-opening loss at ALBA Berlin on Friday that is expected to keep him sidelined for several months. He has undergone examinations in Germany and again in Russia to assess the extent of the injury to his hip adductor. Zubkov will receive a third opinion before deciding how to proceed in his recovery. The 28-year-old forward joined Zenit over the summer after two seasons with Khimki Moscow Region. He also played two EuroLeague campaigns with Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar.
The club also announced that center Gustavo Ayon is likely to miss the next game after suffering a broken nose in the same game on Friday. After the swelling is gone, Ayon will be fit for a protective mask so that he can return to the hardwoods as soon as possible. Ayon, 34, is in his sixth EuroLeague season and first with Zenit.
