Even with the current season still in its early stages, Zalgiris Kaunas is prepping for the future with the announcement on Wednesday that guard Thomas Walkup will be back for the 2020-21 season, too. Walkup (1.93 meters, 26 years old) is in his second Turkish Airlines EuroLeague season with Zalgiris, averaging 8.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.2 steals in 24 minutes per game. He came off the bench for the season's first seven games, but has started the last three. Last season, Walkup started more than half of the team's 34 games, but played less than 17 minutes on average, putting up 5.2 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists. Walkup's European career started in Ludwigsburg of the German League.
"He's one of those players who takes his craft very professionally and responsibly," Zalgiris head coach Sarunas Jasikevicius said of the extension. "Thomas Walkup gelled with the team immediately and is now one of the most important people off the court. On the court, he's improving and has been growing together with the club."
