One of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague's most recognizable players at the start of the 2010s, center Sofoklis Schortsanitis wowed fans with his unique combination of strength and agility. Playing for four teams between 2010 and 2016, he kept throwing his weight around until he had a EuroLeague trophy that was a true testament to his outsized impact on the court.

Schortsanitis made his first Final Four appearance with Olympiacos Piraeus in 2010, when the Reds fell to FC Barcelona in the final. He moved to Maccabi Tel Aviv that summer and returned to the championship game in 2011, finishing again as runner-up, this time to Panathinaikos Athens, after fans and media had voted him to the 2010-11 All-EuroLeague First Team. After one season with Panathinaikos, he returned to join Maccabi's magical ride to the 2013-14 EuroLeague crown. His 9 points in under 10 minutes of the final, overtime victory against Real Madrid epitomized his ability to influence even the biggest games in limited playing time.

  • 2014 Euroleague champion.
  • All-Euroleague First Team, 2010-11.
  • Led the EuroLeague in per-minute scoring, 2010-11 and 2013-14.

Schortsanitis ranked first or second in points per minute in three of his full six full EuroLeague seasons this decade and eighth in two others. Only two players – top scorers Nando De Colo and Alexey Shved – will finish the 2010s with higher per-minute scoring than the one-of-kind talent whom fans everywhere came to know as "Big Sofo".
