CSKA retains scoring ace James through 2023!

CSKA Moscow has guaranteed elite scoring for the foreseeable future by signing explosive guard Mike James to a new three-year contract, the club announced on Monday. James (1.85 meters, 29 years old) won the 2018-19 Alphonso Ford Top Scorer Trophy shortly before joining CSKA, for whom he put up 21.2 points through 28 games of the incomplete 2019-20 season. Despite the early-season loss to injury of forward Will Clyburn, the 2019 Final Four MVP, James and CSKA went 19-9 and qualified for the playoffs before the season was cancelled. James ranked third last season in both scoring and performance index rating (20.9 per game). In both cases, he was among fewer than 10 players to average 20.0 or better in both categories in 20 games or more since 2010.

"I'm happy to be back in CSKA and continue our partnership for three more years," James said in the announcement. "Hope it's filled with championships."

James made his EuroLeague debut in 2014, playing two seasons with KIROLBET Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz and went on to join Panathinaikos OPAP Athens in 2016. He spent one season in Athens and returned midway through the following one to re-join the Greens until signing in the summer of 2018 with AX Armani Exchange Milan. it was during the 2018-29 season in Milan that James rose to the top of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague scoring charts with 19.8 points per game and was voted to the All-EuroLeague Second Team.

In 140 career EuroLeague games, James has scored 2,174 points, the second-highest total of any EuroLeague player since his debut in 2014. He ranks third in scoring per minute during that span with 24.1 points prorated over 40 minutes. In the same period, he ranks sixth in total assists, with 544. Last season was his best tin terms of three-point accuracy, as James made 42.0% of his shots from the arc (79 for 188), which was at least 5.2% better than in any of his previous five EuroLeague seasons.
