Decade's Best: Two-pointers from 2010 to 2020

Whether it is a rim-rocking dunk, a nothing-but-net jumper or an effective but un-flashy layup, players have made an art of downing two-point shots, which remain the heavy lifters of basketball scoring. Over the course of the past decade, two-pointers accounted for nearly half the shots made in the EuroLeague, while free throws and three-pointers split the rest. Some players made two-point baskets in abundance; some were more consistent than others; and some were virtually unstoppable for entire seasons. Two-point excellence is dominated by big men who make their presence felt around the rim. It may be fashionable to say it's a guard's game now, but the big boys still have huge impact – and two-point shots prove it.

No player in EuroLeague history has made more two-point shots than Ante Tomic, and 1,115 of those came in games that he played between 2010 and 2020. Indeed, Tomic dropped almost 200 two-pointers more than the next-best player in that category last decade, Kyle Hines. It helped that both also made the most EuroLeague appearances in the 2010s, but to become clearly the best scorer around the hoop, Tomic has really excelled. The 2.17-meter center debuted in February 2010 with Real Madrid before joining FC Barcelona in 2012. Even just in his seasons wearing Barcelona's uniform, Tomic scored more two-pointers (930) than any other player in the entire last decade.

During the last decade two players made 14 two-point field goals in a single game. The first one to do it was Samardo Samuels in February 2015, leading EA7 Emporio Armani Milan to 76-85 road win at Nizhny Novgorod. Samuels made 14 of his 16 two-point attempts and route to 36 points in less than 32 minutes on the floor. Matching the mark couple of seasons later was Jan Vesely, shining for Fenerbahce Istanbul in a 93-95 overtime road win against CSKA Moscow. Vesely went 14-for-19 from two-point range on that November 2017 night, scoring 31 points in 38 minutes.

Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade big man Boban Marjanovic had the most productive single season in terms of two-point shots made between 2010 and 2020. Marjanovic averaged 6.2 two-pointers during the 2014-15 campaign, when he made 149 total over the course of 24 games. Marjanovic made at least 6 two-point shots in 14 appearances that season, scoring 16.6 points per game and making two-pointers at a rate of 62.1%. Such performances helped him earn All-EuroLeague First Team honors that season, too.
