Olympiacos Piraeus has added a veteran presence to its backcourt by signing defensive ace Charles Jenkins until the end of the 2021-22 season, the club announced Monday. Jenkins (1.91 meters, 31 years old) arrives from Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade, where he put up 3.4 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists in almost 19 minutes per game last season. That was his third stint with Zvezda among seven consecutive seasons in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague. All told, he has played in 160 games with averages of 6.7 points, 1.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.2 steals. His defense on the ball has been a hallmark for Jenkins all that time. He has collected 198 steals, second-most in the EuroLeague since his debut in 2013, and ranks fifth in average steals during that time with 1.2 per game.
At Olympiacos, Jenkins will be reunited with head coach Georgios Bartzokas, for whom he played during two seasons at Khimki Moscow Region, reaching the 2017-18 EuroLeague Playoffs. He also spent one season with AX Armani Exchange Milan. Jenkins is very much an iron man, as well. Until Round 24 in February, after which he missed the last four games prior to the season's cancellation, Jenkins had been out for just one game in his previous six EuroLeague seasons. In fact, he played in every one of his first 135 games in the competition.
