CSKA Moscow solidified an already-strong roster by signing one of the premier players on the continent, former All-EuroLeague First Team selection Toko Shengelia, to a three-year contract on Thursday. Shengelia (2.06 meters, 28 years old) arrives from KIROLBET Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz, where he spent the last six seasons. He averaged 15.9 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.9 assists in 28 EuroLeague games last season. He ranked seventh in the league in scoring, 11th in rebounds and sixth in PIR average (18.5). The season before, Shengelia was named to the 2017-18 All-EuroLeague First Team.
"He was on our radar for many years and finally we were able to make a move," CSKA head coach Dimitris Itoudis said. "Hopefully, together with other players, Toko will help us remain among top teams in European basketball. He is a versatile, highly competitive player and he is at his best age. So I officially welcome Toko to our team and wish that his desire and skill will meet our expectations."
Shengelia started his career with Valencia Basket and won the 7DAYS EuroCup with that club in 2010. Shengelia also played for VOO Verviers-Pepinster and Spirou Charleroi of Belgium, Brooklyn and Chicago of the NBA, and Springfield of the D-League before joining Baskonia in 2014. In 147 career EuroLeague games, Shengelia has accumulated 1,766 points (12.0 ppg.) and 730 rebounds (5.0 rpg.). Shengelia is also a regular member of the Georgian national team.
"I am excited to join the defending Euroleague champions and looking forward to playing with an amazing group of players and coaching staff," Shengelia said. "I hope to achieve many successes in the EuroLeague and VTB League with CSKA."
