Zenit St Petersburg strengthened its frontcourt by signing big man Alex Poythress for the coming Turkish Airlines EuroLeague season, the club announced on Monday. Poythress (2.06 meters, 26 years old) arrives from Galatasaray Doga Sigorta Istanbul, where he averaged 13.6 points and 7.1 rebounds in seven 7DAYS EuroCup games last season. Poythress joined Galatasaray from from Jilin Northeast Tigers of the Chinese League. He has also played for Philadelphia, Indiana and Atlanta in the NBA, as well as Fort Wayne and Erie in the G-League. In the 2018-19 season, he averaged 23.7 points and 9.7 rebounds in 18 games with Erie and 5.1 points and 3.6 rebounds in 21 games with Atlanta. He played college basketball at the University of Kentucky and reached back-to-back NCAA Final Fours in 2014 and 2015.
