Zenit lands shooting guard Baron

Zenit St Petersburg strengthened its backcourt by inking shooting guard Billy Baron to a two-year deal, the club announced Wednesday. Baron (1.88 meters, 29 years old) arrives from Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade, where he averaged 11.6 points on 40.3% three-point shooting and 2.2 assists in 26 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games last season, his first in the competition and second with the club. In the 2018-19 campaign, Baron led Zvezda to the Serbian League title, scoring a game-winning buzzer-beating layup in the title-clinching 75-76 win over Partizan NIS Belgrade. He earned finals MVP honors, averaging 17.0 points. Baron also helped Zvezda lift the Adriatic League trophy. He started his career with Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius of Lithuania, and also played for Spirou Charleroi of Belgium, UCAM Murcia of Spain and Eskisehir Basket of Turkey before joining Zvezda in 2018. Baron has also been a member of the USA national team, helping it win a gold medal at the 2017 FIBA AmeriCup. In 57 7DAYS EuroCup career games with Rytas, Charleroi, Murcia and Zvezda, Baron averaged 12.3 points and 2.2 rebounds.
