Zalgiris Kaunas became the newest Turkish Airlines EuroLeague team to put its players through paces for the new 2020-21 season when it held the first group session of training camp at Zalgirio Arena on Friday.
The players came together first for a team meeting to get to know new head coach Martin Schiller and new teammates such as Patricio Garino, Joffrey Lauvergne, Augustine Rubit and Steve Vasturia. After the meeting, the players were handed off to athletic coaches Sigitas Kavaliauskas and Nerijus Navickas to work on their physical preparation for the season.
"It feels good to be back in the gym, back practicing, but also to be back here in Lithuania," guard Thomas Walkup said. "Getting back and being reunited with everybody, and also meeting new teammates, was really fun. It feels great to be together as a unit."
Zalgiris, which was fighting for a third consecutive playoffs appearance when last season was cancelled due to COVID-19, will host the EuroLeague's We're Back Preseason Tour on September 12 and 13 while looking forward to its season opener at Olympiacos Piraeus on October 1.
