An eye-popping play that pieced together all of what made Panathinaikos Athens point guard Dimitris Diamantidis a EuroLeague legend has been voted the Round 7 winner in the Fans Choice Play of the Decade.
The play came in the fifth round of the 2012-13 Top 16 in a home game against Real Madrid. Diamantidis, EuroLeague career leader in steals, started the play with a minute to go in the opening quarter by using his long arms to deflect and then steal a pass from Real's young star forward Nikola Mirotic intended for Sergio Llull. Diamantidis then started a counter attack in which he dribbled behind his back to wrong-foot Llull and then threw a no-look behind-his-back pass to the trailing Mike Bramos who finished it off with a one-handed slam as the fans roared in amazement. It was a classic example of Diamantidis at his best, getting the work done at both ends of the floor.
His is the sixth play to advance to the finals in mid-September. Four more finalists are yet to be decided, so vote now to make sure your favorites get their due in the Fans Choice Play of the Decade survey!
