Moment of silence for Roman Abzhelilov, Michael Ojo

A moment of silence will be held before all 7DAYS EuroCup and Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games in Round 1 of the 2020-21 season in memory of the late CSKA Moscow team doctor Roman Abzhelilov, who succumbed to COVID-19 in mid-May, and of a former player in both competitions, Michael Ojo, who passed away this summer.

Dr. Abzhelilov, who was survived by his wife and two children, had served with CSKA since 2014. He was part of CSKA's EuroLeague title teams in 2016 and 2019. He also was a member of Khimki Moscow Region's staff when it won the EuroCup title in 2012. He was 44 years old.

Mr. Ojo, who came from Lagos, Nigeria, spent his entire professional career in Belgrade. After moving to the United States for high school and university, Mr. Ojo played his first pro season with FMP of Serbia. For the past two seasons, he wore the jersey of Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade in both the EuroCup and the EuroLeague. His contract with Zvezda expired in early summer. He was training in Belgrade when he collapsed during a private workout on August 7 and never regained consciousness. He was 27 years old.

During this week's moments of silence in their honor, Euroleague Basketball urges fans and game participants to reflect on and respect the memories of Mr. Ojo and Dr. Abzhelilov.

May they rest in peace.
