Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv took home its first trophy for the 2020-21 season by outlasting Hapoel U-NET Holon 86-84 on Saturday night at Drive In Arena in Tel Aviv. It was the first time in three years and the eighth time in club history that Maccabi won the Winner Cup, which began with a series of preseason games. Scottie Wilbekin was chosen as MVP of the final after posting 14 points with 4 assists. Angelo Caloiaro scored 16 and grabbed 6 rebounds, Omri Casspi was 4 for 5 on threes en route to 14 points and Dragan Bender and Elijah Bryant added 12 points each. Tyrus McGee paced Holon with 28 points and Maxime De Zeeuw and Frederic Bourdillon scored 11 each.
McGee knocked down 3 triples as Holon surged to an 11-24 start and led 18-26 after 10 minutes. The lead was back to 13 after a Willy Workman hook shot early in the second quarter before Maccabi closed the gap to 40-48 at the break. Casspi came alive in the third quarter with 3 triples as Maccabi went ahead 67-63. There multiple lead changes in the fourth quarter and McGee's basket-plus-foul drew Holon within 82-81 with 21 seconds remaining, but Wilbekin and Bryant helped put the game away from the line.
