CSKA Moscow announced on Saturday that it has likely lost the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague's leading rebounder, Nikola Milutinov, for the rest of the season due to injury while the club also lifted its suspension of Mike James, the competition's leading scorer. Milutinov injured his right shoulder joint during a Round 23 loss against FC Bayern Munich.
"He will most likely need surgery and subsequent rehabilitation, which will not allow the basketball player to go back on the court this season," the club wrote in its statement after star center underwent tests at the local clinic. "Based on the test results, surgery was recommended."
Milutinov leads the EuroLeague with 8.6 rebounds and 4.4 offensive rebounds per game, ranks fifth in average PIR (17.9) while scoring 9.8 points per game on 67% two-point shooting. Earlier this season Milutinov shattered the EuroLeague single-game record when he pulled down 16 offensive rebounds in a road win at AX Armani Exchange Milan. He was chosen the EuroLeague's MVP of the Month for December.
On Saturday evening, CSKA also announced that its star guard James will re-join the team after being suspended earlier in the week from practices and games. James will take part in practices, and will be available in the team's upcoming games.
James was named the EuroLeague's MVP of the Month for November earlier this season, and currently leads the league in scoring with 20.0 points per game and ranks second in performance index rating with 20.6 on average.
