Panathinaikos OPAP Athens strengthened its roster by inking swingman Mario Hezonja for the remainder of the season, the club announced Monday. Hezonja (2.02 meters, 25 years old) arrives from Portland of the NBA, where he averaged 4.8 points and 3.4 rebounds in 59 NBA games last season. He started his career with Dubrovnik and Zagreb of his native Croatia, and also played for FC Barcelona of Spain, as well as for Orlando and New York of the NBA. He helped Zagreb win the 2011 Euroleague Basketball Junior Tournament, averaging 21.0 points and 7.8 rebounds in 3 games and making it to the All-Tournament team. Hezonja helped Barcelona make it to the EuroLeague Final Four and win the Spanish League title in 2014. He is also a member of the Croatian national team. Hezonja helped Croatia win a gold medal at the 2011 U16 European Championships, and also got respective bronze medals at the 2012 U17 World Cup and the 2011 U19 World Cup. It will be his second stint in the EuroLeague. Hezonja played 38 EuroLeague games in three seasons with Barcelona from 2012 to 2014, averaging 5.2 points.
