Barcelona claims 19th Spanish League crown
FC Barcelona is the Spanish League champion! Barcelona lifted the Spanish League trophy for the first time since 2014 by downing archrivals Real Madrid 92-73 in Game 2 of the Finals. Barcelona swept the series, conquered its 19th league title and completed its first Spanish double - league and cup crowns - since 2011. Nikola Mirotic led the winners with 27 points and was chosen as the Finals MVP. Nick Calathes added 15, Kyle Kuric had 12 while Pau Gasol got 11 for Barcelona. Alberto Abalde led Real with 15 points. Edy Tavares added 12 and Carlos Alocen 10.
Mirotic followed a three-pointer with a fast break layup to fuel a 7-0 opening run. He got help from Calathes and Brandon Davies to make it a double-digit game, 16-5. Tavares dunked, then Fabien Causeur and Abalde struck from downtown but Calathes, Kuric and Gasol kept Barcelona way ahead, 26-15, after 10 minutes. Kuric and Calathes kept pacing Barcelona and Alex Abrines hit a jumper that made it a 16-point game, 37-21. Madrid kept struggling against the hosts' physical defense while Mirotic and Davies broke the game open, 48-30, at halftime. Mirotic buried his third triple to give Barcelona its first 20-point lead, 56-36. Alex Tyus tried to change things for Los Blancos and Usman Garuba dunked to give Real hope at 66-53. Calathes and Gasol fueled an 8-0 run that allowed the hosts to restore a 77-55 margin after 30 minutes. Nothing changed after that, as Barcelona fans had plenty of time to celebrate that their team was the Spanish League champion, seven years later!
