Maccabi lifts 55th Israeli League trophy!
Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv is the Israeli League champion! Maccabi won its 55th Israeli League title - added to 45 Israeli Cup trophies for a combined number of 100 league and cup crowns - by downing Gilboa Galil 73-67 in do-or-die Game 3 of the finals at Menora Mivtachim Arena. It is Maccabi's fourth consecutive Israeli League crown and the club's first double - league and cup titles - since the 2013-14 campaign. Scottie Wilbekin led the winners with 19 points. Chris Jones and Angelo Caloiaro each added 10 for Maccabi. Amit Gershon had 4 points for Gilboa, that led 9-11 early. Wilbekin had the opening 8 points in a 12-0 run which Jones capped with a layup, giving Maccabi its first double-digit lead, 21-11. The hosts led 24-15 after 10 minutes and extended it to 30-18 on a triple by Wilbekin. Gilboa went on a 0-6 run but Jones, Wilbekin and Caloiaro each struck from downtown to boost Maccabi's lead to 42-29 at halftime. Othello Hunter dunked, and got help from Omri Casspi and Yovel Zoosman to break the game open, 50-29, soon after the break. Gilboa got within 58-47 late in the third quarter but Zoosman hit one from beyond the arc, fixing the score at 61-47 after 30 minutes. Maccabi went scoreless for over 5 minutes and Joe Thomasson brought Gilboa as close as 61-54. Gershon struck from downtown to make it a three-point game, 63-60, with 3 minutes left. Hunter and Jones rescued Maccabi in crunch time, combining for all points in a 7-0 run that sealed the outcome. A sellout crowd of Maccabi fans celebrated again!
