Zenit inks playmaker Toptunov

Zenit St Petersburg added depth to its backcourt by inking playmaker Andrey Toptunov to a three-year deal, the club announced Monday. Toptunov (1.84 meters, 19 years old) arrives from Burevestnik Yaroslav, where he averaged 11.5 points and 3.5 assists in 24 Russian League games last season. He scored 35 points against Ufimets Ufa, becoming the youngest player to reach that scoring mark in the Russian League history. Toptunov started his career with Trinta Moscow's youth teams, joining Burevestnik in 2019. He has also been a member of the Russian U18 national team. "Zenit is a team with great ambitions, excellent selection of players and a strong coach. Not every player is given that chance, especially at my age," he said after the agreement. "Thanks to the management of the club and the coaching staff for their trust."
