Fantasy Challenge: Trying some new players

Again, Round 10 had a little bit of everything for my EuroLeague Fantasy Challenge team, Gancedato. I got really solid contributions from Brandon Davies of Zalgiris Kaunas and Nando De Colo of CSKA Moscow, who didn't have a monster game as my team captain, but had enough points (35.2) to avoid further problems. Tony Crocker of Khimki was definitely a bad move (-3.6) and Micheal Eric of Darussafaka Tekfen Istanbul did not perform the way I thought against Gran Canaria. All things considered, I scored 124.9 points and more or less kept my spot in the standings, ranking 6,804th overall. I have enough money to challenge for better and bigger goals, and it should start in Round 11.

As always, I have to get rid of three players to improve my team as much as I can. Yes, you guessed it correctly, Crocker is leaving after not playing well against Panathinaikos OPAP Athens, and Eric is out, too, as Darussafaka will not have it easy against Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv and its two very good shot blockers, Alex Tyus and Tarik Black. I am also selling Adrien Moerman of Efes, who has been really good in his two weeks in my team, but not truly great. There are cheaper players out there who can help me balance my team.

Before I buy some players, I will announce that Mike James of AX Armani Exchange Olimpia Milan is my new team captain. He is a good fit against Herbalife Gran Canaria, who is without starting point guard Clevin Hannah and arrives with a new, interim coach. I really expect wonders from James this week and I recommend everyone to buy him and make him team captain, my frontrunner for MVP of Round 11. Speaking of injuries, since Patricio Garino is not with KIROLBET Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz, I am buying Darrun Hilliard, his teammate, who will see extended playing time for a few weeks. Baskonia plays against CSKA and will need everyone to be aggressive. I am also buying Derrick Williams of FC Bayern Munich, who is playing really well at home. Bayern plays against Khimki, whose power forward Anthony Gill had physical problems late in his team's game against Panathinaikos, so Williams could be a good choice in this game. I can buy just anyone in the utility position – well, not anyone, because I don't have the money left to buy Arturas Gudaitis of Milan, the player I truly want. Instead, I am signing Ante Tomic of FC Barcelona Lassa, who should have a very good game against Buducnost VOLI Podgorica.

So Gancedato looks like this before Round 11:

Mike James, AX Armani Exchange Olimpia Milan (PG) – Plays at home, against a team without its starting PG, in an important game for Milan. Everything is in his favor. Team captain.

Nando De Colo, CSKA Moscow (SG) – The game between Baskonia and CSKA is almost like a EuroLeague derby, with high intensity. De Colo must step up like the superstar he is.

Darrun Hilliard, KIROLBET Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz (SF) – Seeing extended playing time for at least one month. Coach Perasovic seems to like his all-around skills. Expect him to play more and more.

Toko Shengelia, KIROLBET Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz (PF) – Comes off a so-so game in Milan, finishing it with a PIR of 2. Still, my faith remains intact. Toko is a solid Fantasy Challenge player.

Brandon Davies, Zalgiris Kaunas (C) – C'mon, people. After back-to-back 20+10 performances, you didn't really think I would sell Davies, right? The most inspired player in the league right now.

Vasilije Micic, Anadolu Efes Istanbul (G) – Chosen as the EuroLeague's MVP for November. This award should give him even more confidence to do better and better. Keep him in mind!

Derrick Williams, FC Bayern Munich (F) – It is a bit of a gamble but when Williams has been good, he did really, really well. And his contribution will be needed to beat Khimki.

Ante Tomic, FC Barcelona Lassa (C) – Have always been a fan of his post moves, silky jump hooks, and court vision. When motivated and ready to play, Tomic is truly unstoppable.

That's all I have this week. Enjoy what promises to be a great Round 11 of games! Baskonia vs. CSKA, Panathinaikos vs. Fenerbahce (hopefully with giant Zeljko banner back in OAKA), Zalgiris vs. Olympiacos, Anadolu Efes vs. Real Madrid... you name it! And remember, you can make it even better and more fun by competing for prizes in EuroLeague Fantasy Challenge!
