Last month all the participants in the One Team program at BC Lietkabelis Panevezys gathered for their final session with Euroleague Basketball’s social responsibility program.

This closing session was the crown jewel of eight weeks of work with the Algimantas Bandzas Infant and Child Care Home, and the Lithuanian team’s One Team Ambassadors Gintaras Kadziulis and Lorenzo Williams gathered to celebrate and share the moments of joy which they had experienced throughout the project.

Like all 40 teams in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and 7DAYS EuroCup, Lietkabelis has been making great efforts to integrate socially sensitive groups into the local community, addressing important life topics with a group from the local care home in a partnership Panevezys College.

After two months of working hard, the final session saw the group celebrate by spending time together before they were presented with special One Team certificates, which they later used to collect the autographs of players and coaches.

Lietkabelis coach Kadziulis has been acting as one of the club’s One Team Ambassadors, and he said: “I am really happy and proud that I have participated in this project. Seeing the way the kids are today, and remembering our first session when they were nervous, I know that we really helped them. Session after session they got more confidence and became happy, and I hope all the experience which they gained here will help them for the future.”

Guard Lorenzo Williams, another One Team Ambassador, added: “This has been a great experience and it was good to connect with the children. We had a great time learning about leadership, bullying and other different topics each week. I think most important is that we learned things which are significant not only in sports but life in general.”

The program was also supported by the club’s Vice President Rokas Mickevicius, who concluded: “Today we have finished the Euroleague Basketball One Team program, and I want to say that it was great working for eight weeks together with the children from the Algimantas Bandzas Infant and Child Care Home.”

One Team, supported by Turkish Airlines as the One Team Founding Patron and with the collaboration of Special Olympics as Proud Partner, uses basketball to achieve meaningful social impact in our communities across Europe and is supported by every club in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and 7DAYS EuroCup. Since its founding in 2012, the One Team program has already helped more than 14,000 participants through its various team-focused projects.
