AX Armani Exchange Olimpia Milano and Laureus Foundation have teamed up as part of One Team, Euroleague Basketball's social responsibility program, to allow a group of local children to realize their dreams.
The Italian club has been working since October with a group of 20 boys and girls from the Scuola Primaria Baroni in Gratosoglio, a difficult suburb of Milan where people from different backgrounds live at risk of social exclusion.
The main life skills addressed by the coaches – with the support of the club's One Team Ambassador Amedeo Della Valle – are emotional intelligence, communication and respect for the rules.
Through the power of sport, the 10-year-old children have been able to break down their social and physical barriers. Coaches Michele Samaden and Marilisa Zanini have helped them approach their goals on the basketball court with tenacity and vigor, giving them skills that can be transferred to the outside world.
They have learned that sport and life provide not only disappointments, but also many satisfactions. By facing and overcoming their fears, they have been able to chase big dreams and turn them into reality.
One Team, supported by Turkish Airlines as the One Team Founding Patron and with the collaboration of Special Olympics as Proud Partner, uses basketball to achieve meaningful social impact in our communities across Europe and is supported by every club in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and 7DAYS EuroCup.
Since its founding in 2012, the One Team program has already helped more than 16,000 participants through its various team-focused projects.
