The One Team Ambassadors for Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv – John DiBartolomeo, Yovel Zoosman, Nikola Vujcic and Doron Jamchy – have shown their support for the program by making a special visit to the Ayanot Youth Village.
The village is an educational center located just outside Tel Aviv that has partnered with Maccabi for the last four years as part of One Team, Euroleague Basketball's social responsibility program.
Maccabi is working with 12 teenagers between the ages of 14 and 17, using the power of basketball to encourage them to pursue their dreams for a better future.
The education provided at Ayanot is based on the values of tolerance, equality and social involvement, and the village believes it is crucial for young people to receive positive guidance from role models who offer an example to look up to and help the youngsters find their own path to success.
Maccabi's role models are the quartet of current and former players who act as the club's One Team Ambassadors, and this week they all visited Ayanot to take part in games, practices and drills, as well as to talk to the young players and give them valuable advice for the future.
The opening remarks were made by Maccabi's sports director and former EuroLeague champion Nikola Vujcic, who told the boys: "I'm happy to see you again. It's always good to see how you improve and progress, and you need to continue to work hard. Basketball is a beautiful sport and a good way to learn also important things about life."
Those thoughts were echoed by another former Maccabi great, Doron Jamchy, who is now the club's vice chief executive for marketing and community relations. "It was important for us to come up here and participate in this long-standing project with this amazing youth village," he said.
"We have seen a lot of successes here, and not only in the context of basketball. One of One Team's goals is to provide tools that will help young people not only in sport, but also will develop their personalities, values and life in general."
Team captain John DiBartolomeo and rising star Yovel Zoosman were also in attendance, and both of them were happy to dedicate their time to the youngsters, leading them through a warm-up routine and sharing motivational stories and advice.
One Team, supported by Turkish Airlines as the One Team Founding Patron and with the collaboration of Special Olympics as Proud Partner, uses basketball to achieve meaningful social impact in our communities across Europe and is supported by every club in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and 7DAYS EuroCup.
Since its founding in 2012, the One Team program has already helped more than 16,000 participants through its various team-focused projects.
