Turk Telekom Ankara recently concluded its season with One Team, Euroleague Basketball’s social responsibility program, by hosting a memorable celebration event for students from the city’s Etimesgut Special Education Vocational School.
This season has seen the club launch its very first One Team program by working with the school, a public institution which has 106 special students with mild intellectual disabilities.
Students receive normal academic lessons along with physical education, arts and music lessons and various workshops at the school, and the One Team activities are aimed at supporting the children through basketball, in order to level up their life skills and give them more tools to apply in their daily routines.
A total of 15 participants have been taking part in an eight-week program, with the main objective of improving communication skills, confidence and self-esteem. The sessions were led by One Team coaches from the youth categories, and the club’s main sponsor Turk Telekom funded the program as part of their commitment to give back to the community.
For the special visit to the Ankara Sports Hall, first the students were taken into the small hall where they watched a Turk Telekom youth league game, which they supported with great enthusiasm before having their photo taken together and celebrating the team’s victory.
The special guests then passed to the main arena to watch a Turk Telekom practice session from a privileged courtside position. Even better, they then joined some of the stars on the court, taking part in a fun ‘roll the ball’ game with the One Team Ambassador Sylven Landesberg, team captain Kaya Peker and star guard Reggie Redding.
The visit concluded with those players and Mahmut Bulat, the head of the Turk Telekom youth yeams, presenting medals to the students as a congratulations for finishing the project.
The club's One Team CSR Manager Hakan Sen reported that it was a very successful program, saying: “As the Turk Telekom family, we are very happy and proud to finalize our first One Team project with our special friends. We will try our best for new social responsibility projects.”
One Team, supported by Turkish Airlines as the One Team Founding Patron and with the collaboration of Special Olympics as Proud Partner, uses basketball to achieve meaningful social impact in our communities across Europe and is supported by every club in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and 7DAYS EuroCup.
Since its founding in 2012, the One Team program has already helped more than 16,000 participants through its various team-focused projects.
