Tofas Bursa has completed a highly successful One Team program with Renk Autism, a non-governmental organization committed to helping, reintegrating and guiding families with Autism and related intellectual and developmental disorders.

A total of 36 participants, aged between 8 and 29, took part in sessions once per week for two hours. The program was designed to develop awareness of Autism, using basketball as a tool for social integration, and was supported by 12 coaches and volunteers who were specially trained by Renk Autism therapist.

Ferhan Ozvatan, president of the Renk Autism Association, admitted parents of the participants were initially wary about the program but were soon won over: “When we first explained the project to the families, they didn’t know what they were going to encounter. Then, when they saw the environment and when families started to socialise with each other and be able to solve problems, they loved the project.”

Efe Sekerci, Tofas’s One Team Manager, added it had also been a learning experience from the club’s perspective: “The Tofas Renk Team that we formed within the scope of the Euroleague One Team project provided social awareness in many different subjects. It has been an educational session from our point of view as well.”

One Team, supported by Turkish Airlines as the One Team Founding Patron and with the collaboration of Special Olympics as Proud Partner, uses basketball to achieve meaningful social impact in our communities across Europe and is supported by every club in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and 7DAYS EuroCup.

Since its founding in 2012, the One Team program has already helped more than 16,000 participants through its various team-focussed projects.
