One of this season's most active clubs in support of One Team, Euroleague Basketball's social responsibility initiative, has been Unicaja Malaga.
The Spanish side has run four separate programs over the last few months, including the second year of 'Sponsorteam', a creative initiative that invites all the club's local sponsors to get together for regular fun events and meetings. It also entails supporting a non-governmental organization, which this season was Basket4Life, a group that helps people find employment and has been participating in Unicaja's One Team sessions this year.
The purpose of the Sponsorteam meetings, which were attended by more than 100 companies this season, is for all the organizations who support the club to learn about each other's businesses, sharing ideas and best practices. In this way, Unicaja Malaga is bringing together the local business community and making the club a true hub of the city's commercial scene.
This season, the program wanted to introduce One Team as an integral part of its activities, and therefore created ‘Sponsorteam loves One Team'. The initiative saw sponsors and entrepreneurs attend some of the One Team sessions, allowing them to learn how business can make a valuable contribution to the local community.
Among the participants was Juan Luis Pinto from the travel company Viajes Halcon, who described his engagement with One Team and Down Malaga – a local organization helping young people with Down Syndrome – as a "collective and enriching experience."
Juan Luis continues: "I wait impatiently for the training days, usually Wednesdays, to meet the One Team group: Mary, who is shy but has great energy with the basketball…what a scorer! Jesus, who competes to win – even with himself. Juan Carlos, Juan Jesus, Cristian, Miguel, Oscar, Carlos, who listen attentively to the coaches giving wise advice on sport and life. And Jose Carlos Gaspar, the life and soul of the project…adding success to success, working and having fun without rest.
"It is a dream that I don't want to end."
One Team, supported by Turkish Airlines as the One Team Founding Patron and with the collaboration of Special Olympics as Proud Partner, uses basketball to achieve meaningful social impact in our communities across Europe and is supported by every club in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and 7DAYS EuroCup.
Since its founding in 2012, the One Team program has already helped more than 16,000 participants through its various team-focused projects.
