Eat like a pro with One Team and Fenerbahce!

This season’s activities for One Team, Euroleague Basketball’s social responsibility program, have seen Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul team up with a local high school, Sare Selahattin Sare, to create a project designed to educate and motivate children through basketball.

One of the missions is to encourage active living and healthy eating through Beko’s ‘Eat Like A Pro’ project, with a group of 15 children from low-income families who were invited to join the One Team group.

At the start of the project, which will continue for eight weeks and is being led by Fenerbahce coach Baran Akalın, the children – who are all aged between 10 and 13 – underwent height-weight reviews in order to design tailored nutritional and basketball training programs.

The key element of the nutritional plan has been to educate the children on different topics every week, such as the importance of water, proteins, carbohydrates and sugar. The children were given notecards to write down their intakes, so the results can be evaluated and discussed the following week.

And nutritionist Muge Ulker, who is leading that side of the project, has offered some special top tips to eat like a pro:

Along with nutrition informational sessions, the basketball training plan is designed to teach the children about important social skills such as teamwork, respect, effort, self-esteem, communication, active listening and conflict resolution.

Towards the end of the project, the highlight of the program will come when the One Team children are given the chance to meet with Fenerbahce stars to explain what they have learned – and take a few shots together on the court!

One Team, supported by Turkish Airlines as the One Team Founding Patron and with the collaboration of Special Olympics as Proud Partner, uses basketball to achieve meaningful social impact in our communities across Europe and is supported by every club in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and 7DAYS EuroCup.

Since its founding in 2012, the One Team program has already helped more than 19,000 participants through its various team-focused projects.
