7DAYS EuroCup club JL Bourg en Bresse, a debutant in One Team, Euroleague Basketball's social responsibility program, is already making a big impact in its local community after starting a new project earlier this month.
For its first participation in One Team, Bourg has decided to work with the Institut des Jeunes Sourds, part of the AFIS Association, which supports local people who suffer from deafness. Over 12 weeks, a group of eight deaf and hard-of-hearing children will attend One Team sessions with Bourg to practice basketball, and also to develop essential personal life skills such as confidence, self-esteem, respect, open-mindedness and tolerance.
The main theme of the project, supported by mutual fund Aesio, is to put the participants "in the player's shoes," allowing them to discover the daily life of a professional basketball player through topics such as nutrition, mental preparation and the integration of different cultures within a team.
Bourg's One Team Ambassador, center Pierre Pelos, is looking forward to supporting the program: "I am very proud to be an ambassador of this project for my club, and to present and share my daily life and my sport with these young people."
One Team, supported by Turkish Airlines as the One Team Founding Patron and with the collaboration of Special Olympics as Proud Partner, uses basketball to achieve meaningful social impact in our communities across Europe and is supported by every club in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and 7DAYS EuroCup.
Since its founding in 2012, the One Team program has already helped more than 22,000 participants through its various team-focused projects.
