Herbalife Gran Canaria is helping hundreds of local people realize their full potential after incorporating One Team activities into its existing social responsibility program, Proyecto Suma.
The club’s project was created in 2019 for people with different capacities and at risk of social exclusion, with three main objectives: self-determination and personal development (happiness), emotional and physical wellbeing (health) and social inclusion (acceptance in the society).
The club works with 207 participants aged from 4 to 60, partnering with 11 different schools and local social entities, also calling on the support of One Team Ambassadors Javi Beiran and Fabio Santana. Sessions are held on a weekly basis, providing basketball-related activities to motivate and encourage the participants by integrating them into the club’s activities.
Lourdes Araujo is the mother of one of the participants, and she explained her son’s appreciation of the project runs far deeper than simply playing sport: “My son Raul is 14 years old. He has always been into sports, he liked almost every sport. But with Proyecto Suma he now feels fulfilled. It goes beyond basketball. He has found something else. He feels like he’s part of something.”
One Team, supported by Turkish Airlines as the One Team Founding Patron and with the collaboration of Special Olympics as Proud Partner, uses basketball to achieve meaningful social impact in our communities across Europe and is supported by every club in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and 7DAYS EuroCup.
Since its founding in 2012, the One Team program has already helped more than 22,000 participants through its various team-focused projects.
