Main Life Skills: Team building, Confidence and Communication

About the program: Khimki has been developing its One Team activities for five years, working with groups of children who had been deemed by local youth authorities as prone to antisocial behavior. The club is working with children from local orphanage Mytishchi Children’s Home of Musical Education, which cares for 32 children aged 7 to 16. As the name suggests, a special feature of this orphanage is providing musical education for the children, who learn to play a musical instrument and form an orchestra which has a long history of participation in a variety of musical events. A total of 17 children aged 11-15 are trained in two groups during One Team sessions, giving them an additional life skill learning tool through basketball thanks to their One Team coach Vitaly Nosov, a former Russian national team player, along with One Team Ambassadors Anthony Gill and Egor Vyaltsev.

Khimki Moscow Region´s second program has been developed with a new partner, the Khimki social rehabilitation Centre for underage children, which was founded in 2013 and specializes in medicine for homeless children and the social rehabilitation of children in vulnerable social situations. The activities of the center are aimed at improving the pupils’ health, socio-psychological state, and legal status. All services are state-funded and therefore free of charge for the pupils and their families. A group of 8 girls and boys, aged 7-12, will attend One Team sessions with the objective of improving their health habits, socialization and communication skills.
